Order Picker Course – Why Order Picker Training Matters?

There is no denying that pickers are the most crucial elements in order fulfilment operations. If you have ordered something online this year, the odds are that the product was selected by an order picker. Therefore, this profession is one of the most common careers in the forklift industry. A lot of people may not realize that this job exists. Thus, they don’t realize that the order picker course is also necessary. Employees need an order picker license to operate any type of pallet jack or order picker. Here are the reasons why order picker training is important.

What is an Order Picker?

The function of an order picker is exactly what the name implies. They choose orders in a warehouse for stores, other distribution centres, and more. Typically, order pickers are given a list of products for retrieval from a warehouse. Once the list of goods is collected, the order picker gets the pallet ready to load into a truck.

This includes driving the pallet through the warehouse while collecting different products on the order sheet and safely getting out of the warehouse to load the orders into a truck or any other shopping vehicle. Some order pickers load their pallets into trucks. While this is not a dangerous job, it is crucial to opt for order picker training to ensure that accidents and injuries at work can be avoided.

Order Picker Working Conditions

There are different types of conditions that order pickers work in. Some order pickers work in climate-controlled environments, while others work in sub-freezing temperatures. The weathering warehouse conditions often require wearing the right clothing to work. Performing order-picking duties must be comfortable. Since the pallet jack does the heavy lifting, workers are not subjected to the same wear and tear. Thus, if you go through the order picker course and learn the proper way to perform your duties, you will enjoy a long and healthy career in this field. To get the order picker license, you must pass OSHA’s minimum safety training requirements that fall under the powered industrial truck safety guidelines.
